Position Overview

Surgery Instruments & Scrub Technician is a vital part of a specialty surgery service. You will be a second set of hands for our surgeons in the operating room and responsible for ensuring proper maintenance and sterility of our intricate surgical instrumentation and equipment.

 

Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg, MD is one of the oldest and best-known specialty veterinary and 24/7 emergency hospitals in the country, with around-the-clock emergency care available every day of the year, no appointment required. The AAHA-accredited team includes board-certified specialists in Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine. We actively promote cross training in all departments.

Key Responsibilities

Surgery Instrument & Scrub Technicians are responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Proper cleaning, maintenance, and sterilization of surgical instruments
  • Ensuring correct instruments and supplies are available for each procedure
  • Assisting with inventory maintenance
  • Maintaining a clean and organized workspace
  • Maintenance of anesthesia machines and sufficient stock of supplies

Qualifications (Required)

Ideal candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Organizational expertise
  • Basic medical terminology and anatomical identification
  • Ability to take initiative while working in a team environment
  • Ability to anticipate doctors’ needs
  • Ability to take direction
  • Be friendly, outgoing, and people-oriented
  • Must have sound decision making skills and be able to multi-task while working in an environment of stress
  • 2+ years’ experience as a veterinary technician is required.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) preferred. 

Schedule:

  • We strive to help our technicians and assistants maintain a healthy work-life balance by offering set schedules so you can plan your life outside of work. Your schedule will consist of four, 10-hour shifts per week, with 3 days off.
  • Monday-Thursday, 8:30AM-6:30PM
  • 24 hours of on-call each month is required

Pay Range

$19—$24 USD
