ER Veterinary Technician Supervisor

Title: Technician Supervisor
Reports to: Hospital Manager
Location: Arkansas Veterinary Emergency & Specialists
Position overview:
A working supervisor who maintains the same duties as the medical technical staff (e.g. technicians and assistants) as well as scheduling and supervising direct reports. Expedites the care and efficiency of the teams. Works with the Specialists and Medical Director to establish and maintain patient care standards for all departments. Must lead teams by example, demonstrate strong organizational skills, follow company policies, and have a positive and professional attitude.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise technicians/assistants in all departments, assist in evaluating performance (90 day and annual), review attendance, enforce company policies, and communicate new practices and policies regarding technical duties
- Schedule staff according to department needs, monitoring and regulating overtime hours and ensuring proper coverage in times of shortage
- Organizes training for new staff and mentor all staff regarding performance and training needs
- Perform the duties of technician or assistant, as scheduled
- Liaison with all departments, supervisors, and hospital manager regarding patient care and hospital operations; resolve issues as needed
- Oversee cleaning, stocking, and inventory for all departments
- Exhibit confidentiality and professionalism in all regards for employee issues; be proactive in issue resolution
- Keep hospital management informed of any issues or risks that might impact operations or employee relations; work with the management team to find solutions
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Hospital Manager
- Participates and attends all hospital meetings
- Holds weekly meetings with Hospital Manager to ensure a constant flow of communication
Technical Skills:
- Minimum of 4 years veterinary experience
- Clinical laboratory procedures
- Medication calculations and administration
- Abides by hospital policies and procedures, including contents of Employee Handbook
- Venipuncture
- Catheter placement
- Animal Restraint
- Vital Sign Monitoring
- Client Communication
- Radiographic Technique and anesthesiology
- Veterinary husbandry, terminology and protocols
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT or LVMT) preferred or equivalent experience
- Emergency or Supervisory experience also preferred

Schedule:
- Four 10-hour shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- Supervisor may be required to fill in shifts as needed based on staffing and patient load
- Overtime as needed
