Carolina Veterinary Specialists (CVS) Huntersville is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinarian to serve as our Emergency Services Medical Director. This is an opportunity to combine advanced emergency medicine with meaningful medical leadership while helping shape the future of one of the Carolinas’ premier emergency and specialty hospitals.
As Emergency Services Medical Director, you will continue practicing emergency medicine while serving as a mentor, coach, and leader for our Emergency Service. You’ll work closely with hospital leadership to build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing medical team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and client service.
Our hospital features a Board-Certified Surgeon who also serves as Medical Director, an Exotics Specialist, a team of six Emergency Veterinarians, and more than 25 full-time veterinary technicians and assistants supporting patient care 24/7. Together, we provide comprehensive emergency and specialty care to patients throughout the greater Charlotte region.

Leadership Responsibilities
The Emergency Services Medical Director plays a critical role in developing both people and medicine.
Responsibilities include:
- Mentoring, coaching, and developing Emergency Veterinarians through regular feedback and clinical guidance
- Training and onboarding new Emergency Doctors while promoting a culture of continuous learning
- Establishing and maintaining high standards of medical care and clinical protocols
- Addressing performance concerns professionally while fostering accountability and professional growth
- Partnering with Hospital Leadership on doctor recruitment, retention, engagement, scheduling, and professional development
- Leading medical discussions, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives
- Serving as a trusted clinical resource for doctors, technicians, and support staff
Client Communication
Exceptional communication is essential to this role.
The successful candidate will be comfortable:
- Speaking directly with upset or concerned clients regarding complex medical cases and unexpected outcomes
- Resolving escalated client concerns with professionalism, empathy, and confidence
- Coaching fellow veterinarians through difficult client conversations
- Promoting a culture of outstanding communication and client service throughout the Emergency Department
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a guaranteed base salary of $200,000, plus an Emergency Services Medical Director stipend, production-based commission, and signing, retention, and relocation incentives totaling up to $100,000.

Qualifications
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
- North Carolina veterinary license (or ability to obtain)
- DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum three years of emergency medicine experience preferred
- Previous leadership, mentorship, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Outstanding clinical judgment and emergency medicine skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop veterinarians
- Ability to manage difficult client conversations with professionalism and empathy
- Commitment to building a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing medical team

Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining a high quality of progressive veterinary care
- Oversees and gives directives regarding medical standards and quality of care
- Sets policies as they pertain to the practice of medicine
- Works toward making various services work as one team
- In conjunction with appropriate leadership team members, recommends additions to the hospital inventory
- Budgets for new equipment and provides a reasonable cost estimate and return on investment
- Sees patients and handles clinical practice
- Ensures positive communication with clients and between doctors, including the proper transfer of patient care responsibilities
- Reviews patient records for completeness and accuracy and uses them to promote medical excellence
- Appropriately manages controlled drugs
- Reviews and approves requests for alternatives to additional drugs and medical supplies
- Conducts regular doctor meetings
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager

- 3-5 years of clinical experience
