Kennel Assistant / Care Coordinator - Rocklin Road Animal Hospital
PetVet Care Centers' Rocklin Road Animal Hospital is currently seeking a Kennel Assistant / Care Coordinator to join our team!

Position Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Provides compassionate care to pets
- Feeds animals as prescribed by the attending Veterinarian or as the owner has requested; records appetites; water intake, as well as fecal and urine production
- Recognizes and reports any unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors and monitors pets for signs of distress or disease.
- Assists Veterinarians and technicians with pet restraint
- Maintains the cleanliness of the hospital each day; cleans equipment and facilities using chemicals and supplies; ensures the safe use of chemicals
- Follows a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing all cages, runs, wards, and related areas; changes litter boxes and food/water bowls
- Completes the weekly and monthly chore list to maintain hospital cleanliness, equipment, and the overall appearance of the hospital
- Correctly prioritizes tasks
- Maintains laundry for the kennel and hospital
- Provides patients with fresh, clean bedding when appropriate
- Walks patients according to schedule
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Remain professional and courteous to clients and co-workers while handling multiple tasks at once with many interruptions.
- Learn and understand our services and health recommendations and be able to clearly communicate these to clients.
- Be able to deal with difficult and/or aggressive patients in an effective manner meanwhile keeping yourself, the pet, and co-workers safe
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.
Qualifications (Required)
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays
- This is a strenuous job that requires a lot of lifting, cleaning, and constant motion
- Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking
- May involve some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds)
- Customer Service: Displays a desire to provide outstanding services and exceed customer expectations
- Communication: Uses effective and appropriate methods of interacting with others
- Energy and Productivity: Completes tasks quickly and thoroughly without prompting
- Flexibility and Multi-tasking: Adapts easily to changing demands and manages multiple priorities effectively
- Administrative Ability: Uses appropriate administrative and clerical procedures and systems for managing office work.
- Dependability: Demonstrates responsibility in completing all job tasks
- Team orientation: Works cooperatively with the team to address tasks and accomplish goals
- Organization and Attention to Detail: Monitors and reviews information thoroughly and maintains an organized system for all documents
- Time Management: Manages time and prioritizes work tasks effectively
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Coordinates the flow of pets and owners in the lobby; placates owners distressed by long waits, scheduling glitches, and other problems
- Recognizes the symptoms of pet(s) and owners in crisis; handles basic medical emergencies appropriately
- Assists owners when picking up medications or special dietary products; answers questions
- Inputs data to practice management software to check pets in; makes simple postings to accounts; compiles data for various reports
- Types and edits a variety of correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material ensuring accuracy
- Receives and distributes incoming mail; processes and stamps outgoing mail
- Performs cashiering duties; processes refunds, returns and credits as needed
- Organizes and processes all payment plans
- Processes billing statements and collections
- Coordinates and schedules appointments; calls owners scheduled for the next day to remind them of their appointments, appointment times, and any special instructions, such as the need for fasting, withholding or administering medications
- May assist with retail sales
- May weigh pets when they come in for exams, procedures, etc.
- Responds to client emails
- Processes faxes
- Shows up for work regularly; full time presence at work is essential for every shift
- Obtain previous records from other facilities and adds to patient chart
- Calls clients whose pets are overdue for vaccines, grooming, medication refills, etc.
- Able to learn basic veterinary medicine terminology
- Become familiar with retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives and be able to confidently discuss with clients
- Have a strong sense of excellent customer service and be able to provide that to clients even during high stress situations
- Be able to multi-task efficiently
Schedule: Standard shift will be Wednesday to Sunday. Shift times will vary.
