Position Overview

Join our team as a Surgery Veterinary Assistant who supports the veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

The Equine Anesthesia & Surgery Technician is a vital aspect of the surgical department. This position will have the following responsibilities, as well as any others assigned by the staff veterinarians.

  • Review the daily calendar and ensure that all necessary equipment, supplies, and medications are ready for scheduled procedures.
  • Maintain surgical inventory, equipment, and sterilization of instruments.
  • Responsible for evaluating the patient’s health prior to surgery and during induction, surgery, and recovery, informing the staff veterinarians of any abnormalities.
  • Manage turnover of induction and operating rooms, including cleaning and disinfecting between patients.
  • Coordinate patient flow through induction, surgery, and recovery. Ensuring efficient flow to maximize the number of patients moving through each day.
  • Enter accurate medical records and invoicing. Ensure efficient flow of information between the Ambulatory, Diagnostic, Surgery, and Rehabilitation departments of the hospital.
  • Post-operative bandage changes and medication administration.
  • Assist in other areas of the hospital as needed.

Qualifications (Required)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have 2 years of equine veterinary experience

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Equine Anesthesia experience or certification
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) preferred

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8AM-5PM (may vary depending on workload)

Pay Range
$22$28 USD
