The veterinary assistant provides support to the veterinarians in their daily tasks by restraining and handling patients, managing equipment and organizing ambulatory trucks, and entering invoices between appointments. Interested candidates should have strong equine handling and/or veterinary assistant or technician experience. This is a full-time hourly position, Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handling and restraining patients, including jogging for soundness exams
  • Ensure truck has any necessary equipment for the appointments that day
  • Setting up equipment for appointments (ultrasound, endoscope, dental floats, shockwave, radiograph)
  • Clean and disinfect materials and equipment
  • Manage truck inventory
  • Entering invoices and client/patient information into hospital management software, maintain accurate medical records
  • Submit laboratory samples
  • Other duties as assigned by veterinarian

Physical Demands:

  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Able to jog horses in hand
  • Able to lunge horses Walk/Trot/Canter both directions
  • Able to lift 35+ lbs

Qualifications (Required)

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong equine handling skills
  • May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
  • Depending on the functional area of assignment, tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Veterinary assistant or technician experience preferred but not necessary.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-time (9-5)

Pay Range
$18$23 USD
