General Practice Technician Supervisor

Title: GP Technician Supervisor

Reports to: Technician Director

Department: Hospital Operations

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Location: Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital

Position Overview:

A working supervisor who performs the duties of medical technical staff (e.g., technicians and assistants) as well as scheduling and supervising the staff of the assigned department. Expedites the care and efficiency of the department. In charge of patient care standards for the department. Must lead team by example, demonstrating organization skills, following company policies, and having a professional attitude.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform the duties of technician or assistant, as scheduled.
  • Supervise technicians and other medical personnel in assigned department, evaluating performance through reviews (introductory, quarterly, and annual), holding team accountable for punctuality and attendance, enforcing company policies and communicating new practices and policies regarding technical duties. 
  • Participates in selection of staff through in person interviews making recommendations to the Technician Director.
  • Ensures smooth flow of patients through department and holds team accountable for completion of all aspects of patient care.
  • Responsible for holding staff accountable, performing corrective actions as needed.
  • Schedule staff according to departmental needs, monitoring and regulating overtime hours and meal penalties worked by staff, ensuring proper coverage in times of shortage, and maintaining budget provided by Technician Director.
  • Manage staff call outs and adjust the daily staff schedule as needed to ensure coverage remains adequate.
  • Coordinate and administer monthly departmental meetings.
  • Coordinates with Technician Director to train new staff in their responsibilities; mentoring all staff regarding performance and training needs.
  • Works with Technician Director to develop staff training program for department.
  • Liaison with other departments and supervisors regarding patient care and hospital operations; resolve issues, as needed.
  • Oversees cleaning, stocking, and inventory duties for the department ensuring it is maintained to hospital standards.
  • Responsible for assisting with clearing discrepancies in Cubex as they arise/are assigned.
  • Exhibit confidentiality and professionalism in all regards for employee issues; be proactive in approach to issue resolution.
  • Keep hospital management informed of any issues or risks that might impact operations or employee relations; work with management team to resolve.
  • Receive client complaints and concerns regarding department, escalating issues to Technician Director as needed.
  • Stay up to date on all hospital policies and procedures, including contents of Employee Handbook
  • Work with management team to lead implementation of new policies and procedures.
  • Rotate weekend on-call with technician management team.
  • Maintain department handbook of policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)
  • Preferably with Veterinary controlled substance permit
Pay Range
$30$34 USD
