FT Daytime Weekend Veterinary Technician/Assistant

Summary: Responsible for all aspects of patient care in ICU including hourly treatments, seeing daytime emergencies, directly overseeing critical patients, communicating/updating doctors and staff about their patients in ICU, performing CPR when needed on emergencies and in house cases.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Bleach ICU cage doors monthly
  • Client communication/patient updates as needed
  • Facilitate client/patient visits as needed
  • See Daytime ER’s
  • Appropriately restrain patients for examinations, procedures and blood draws
  • Catheter Placement/Blood Draws
  • Proactive role in patient hospitalization and treatment procedures
  • Proactive role in communication with doctors and staff about their patients in ICU
  • Monitor patient parameters and notify doctor of potential concerns
  • Great ability to multi-task
  • Outstanding nursing and observation skills
  • Take proactive role in life-saving techniques during CPR, as necessary
  • Maintain a clean ICU environment
  • Work as a team with other ICU staff members
  • Update patient charges as needed
  • Maintain the efficiency of the service by utilizing time management skills to recognize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Particular ability to provide patient and compassionate nursing care for debilitated patients

Competencies/Requirements:

Familiarity With/Proficiency In

  • Nursing Care
    • Working knowledge of hospital medications and drugs- Pharmacology/ Dosing
    • Awareness of safety concerns for patients recovering from anesthesia
    • Knowledge of normal patient parameters
    • Knowledge of blood products and administration parameters and protocols
    • Knowledge of critical nursing care and steps to take in the event of patient compromise
    • Familiarity with each department’s staff and doctor preferences
    • Understanding of patient specific disease processes
    • Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology
    • Ability to administer and knowledge for appropriate fluid therapy
    • Knowledge of protocols for emergency cases being seen
    • Working knowledge of ventilator, oxygenation, EKG telemetry, thoraseal and other advanced ICU equipment
  • Teamwork
    • Must be able to work well in a team environment
    • Must be able to communicate well with team members
    • Must be conscientious of sharing caseload equally
    • Conscientious of personal safety and the safety of those around you
    • Must have a proactive approach to helping other team members in ICU and generally, the staff at CVS

 

Pay Range
$20$24 USD
