Carolina Veterinary Specialists-Matthews, NC is now hiring a Kennel Assistant for our fast-paced, high volume 24/7/365 Emergency and Specialty Hospital.
The Kennel Assistant (KA) is a vital employee at Carolina Veterinary SpecialistsMatthews.This position is essential to the maintenance, cleanliness, and flow of the hospital. The Kennel Assistant is also an assistant to other support staff in facilitating minor treatments and procedures of patients. The KA is required to perform, learn, and teach all tasks covered in job responsibilities. The KA is expected to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully to all supporting staff members. This position requires organization, time-management, and compassion.

Kennel Assistant Requirements:
Maintenance
- Maintain hospital cleanliness and efficiency on a daily basis
- General knowledge of zoonotic disease and prevention
- Sweep, clean, and mop all floor surfaces
- Change and maintain all trash receptacles
- Clean and maintain all cages and kennels
- Clean and maintain all countertops and surfaces
- Clean and maintain wet sinks
- Clean, fold, and put away all laundry
- Clean and put away black traction mats
- Clean and put away E-collars
- Clean and put away litterboxes
- Deep clean kennel area as needed
- Deep clean cat ward as needed
- Ensure all equipment is clean and in working order
- Notify Inventory Manager of any broken or malfunctioning equipment
- Restock and maintain all supplies in treatment, ICU, rooms, etc.
- Follow all OSHA guidelines
- Keep drinks in designated areas
- Keep food off treatment floor and in designated areas
Technical
- Safely, humanely, and efficiently restrain all patients
- Assist DVM and support staff with scheduled walks
- Assist DVM and support staff with bathing patients
- Assist DVM and support staff with examinations, procedures, and diagnostics
- Maintain cleanliness and comfort of patient and patient kennel
- Notate voids of all patients
- Administer appropriate feedings
- Maintain and improve skills and knowledge
- Accurately maintain and complete record keeping regarding patient status, treatments, and notes
- Notify attending DVM of any and all deviations in patient and status
- Efficiency in Cornerstone, Instinct, and Ally DVM
- Assist CSR as needed
- Comply with hospital policies and procedures
