Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Discharge Veterinary Technician/Assistant to join our specialty team. The ideal candidate will be the primary point of contact for clients as their pets transition from hospital care to home, ensuring clear communication, thorough education, and continuity of care. This role requires strong knowledge of veterinary nursing or technical assistance, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, specialty hospital setting.

Schedule & Hours

  • This is a second-shift position, with typical hours from 12:30 p.m.–8:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m.– 9:00 p.m.
  • Discharges are scheduled in 30-minute appointment blocks across all specialty departments.
  • During downtime between discharges, the Discharge Technician/Assistant will assist the Emergency Department and provide phone triage
  • Rotating schedule: 5 days on / 2 days off, followed by 2 days on / 5 days off.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for discharge, including medication administration, wound care, and postoperative instructions.
  • Provide thorough client education regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care.
  • Coordinate with specialty services including surgery, neurology, oncology, cardiology, and internal medicine to ensure smooth discharge processes.
  • Document all discharge instructions accurately in the patient’s medical record.
  • Serve as a resource to clients for questions and concerns following hospital visits.
  • Collaborate with veterinary technicians, assistants, nurses, and doctors to ensure continuity of care and positive client experiences.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized discharge area.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, or equivalent) or Veterinary Assistant experience required.
  • Experience in a specialty or emergency veterinary setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication and client education skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Passion for client service and patient advocacy.

Pay Range
$20$26 USD
