Position Overview
- The Kennel Assistant supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. This position supports veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment; feeding, exercising, restraining and handling pets.
Key Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and monitor the health and behavior of hospitalized pets
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and treatment areas
- Prepping surgical or treatment areas by gathering supplies ahead of time
- Assisting with lab work/prep in the event its needed
- Provide exercise and enrichment for animals as directed by veterinary staff
- Support staff with lifting, handling & overall care of pets when necessary
- Follow clinic protocols for safety, sanitation, and infection control
Qualifications (Required)
- Previous experience working with animals preferred but not required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility within a fast paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- Compassionate, patient, and attentive to animal needs
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
- Previous experience working with animals (e.g., kennel, shelter, pet boarding, or veterinary setting)
- Familiarity with:
- Cleaning and sanitizing animal areas
- Monitoring animal behavior and health
- Supporting vet staff with daily tasks or treatment prep
Schedule:
- 3 hours a day with on call status
