This role ensures demand for veterinary services, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies, are accurately forecasted and translated into actionable inventory and financial plans that support exceptional patient care. This leader partners closely with Medical Leadership (DVMs), Hospital Operations, Pricing, FP&A, Accounting, Procurement, Inventory Operations, and IT/Data teams to balance clinical service levels, working capital, and profitability in a high-volume, SKU-intensive environment with seasonal demand patterns and multiple Practice Information Management Systems (PIMS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Build inventory budget frameworks that reflect the breadth and complexity of SKUs across General Practice, Specialty, and Equine settings.
  • Define inventory investment requirements for hospitals, new service lines, expansions, including start-up/onboarding inventory set-up budgets.
  • Own monthly forecasting for inventory and COGS at the category and sub-category level, with visibility and reporting at hospital, regional, and enterprise
  • Develop and maintain multi-year trend analyses to support annual planning, growth initiatives, and long-range forecasts.
  • Analyze forecast variances and identify root causes (e.g., demand shifts, ordering behavior, promotions/pricing changes, supply disruptions, data issues).
  • Leverage advanced methods and AI/ML-based forecasting approaches to improve forecast accuracy, reduce bias, and anticipate shifts in patient demand.
  • Partner with Procurement on the impact of annual cost changes, discounts, rebates, and vendor programs to inform buying strategies and inventory investment decisions.
  • Partner with Hospital Leaders and Operations to forecast, measure, and enforce inventory buying budgets at the hospital level by category/sub-class—monitoring, escalating, and recommending actions as trends shift.
  • Partner with Pricing and FP&A for business reviews to clearly communicate drivers, misses, risks/opportunities, and recommended actions.
  • Partner with IT/Data teams to improve forecasting tools, dashboards, PIMS integration, master data quality, and governance across clinical and inventory systems.
  • Define, track, and report planning KPIs, including forecast accuracy, forecast bias, in-stock/service levels, inventory turns, days/weeks of supply, and related working capital metrics.
  • Conduct targeted performance analysis (e.g., top/bottom performing hospitals) to identify best practices, standardize improvements, and drive inventory productivity.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Analytics/Decision Science, Economics, or a related field
  • 5+ years in demand planning, forecasting, or inventory planning —preferably in healthcare, veterinary, pharmaceutical, or medical supplies.
