Mohawk Alley Animal Hospital is an established 5 doctor small animal practice located in the heart of Echo Park in Los Angeles, California. We are a state-of-the-art paperless practice, and we provide a full range of general practice services for dogs and cats, including physical exams, surgery, dental work, laboratory and digital x-ray. Our aim is to utilize our knowledge, compassion, and abilities to serve our community. We offer a uniquely high standard of care to our patients and support for our clients from a team approach. Each one of our staff members play a vital role in patient health. About You:
We are looking for candidates that are willing to join us in providing the highest quality standard of care to our patients, our clients, and to each other. In this position you will work closely with our doctors, other technicians, and clients to facilitate seamless and exceptional experiences.
Ideal candidates should be able to handle fast paced, think-on-your-feet work. Ability to stand and walk for long hours as well as lift 50 pounds. Animal handling or previous veterinary experience is preferred. Strong communication skills, computer skills, customer service skills and attention to detail is a must.
Essential job functions:
- Ability to practice safe handling of all types of chemicals, equipment, and pets
- Identify and apply proper safety measures for restraint
- Work with Veterinarians and Doctors’ Assistants to create invoices and estimates
- Triage incoming patients
- Administer medications SQ, IM and IV
- Drug calculations
- Maintain and use laboratory and medical equipment (laboratory equipment, monitors and autoclave, etc.)
- Run in-house laboratory samples
- Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis
- Perform venous catheterization
- Restraint for a variety of patients, including fractious animals
- Proper restraint for various procedures
- Knowledge of triage and vital derangement
- Initiate emergency procedures when necessary
- IV catheter placement on both feline/canine patients
- Monitor sedation and anesthesia
- Perform radiographs (including dental radiographs)
- Perform dental cleanings
- Complete ear cleanings, nail trims and anal gland expressions
- Dispense and fill prescribed medications; discuss dosing instructions and side effects with clients
- Medical record documentation
- Bandaging various areas of a patient
- Controlled drug duties (key holder, administer and RX)
- Intubation, extubation and recovery from anesthesia or sedation
- Handle telephone calls when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Office skills:
- Ability to understand and use a Windows based computer system
- Ability to type and spell accurately
- Operate a copy/fax machine, credit card/debit machine, and email system
