Veterinary Surgical Technician
Position Overview: Surgical Inpatient Nurse
This nurse is the primary “point person” for all surgical inpatients, with a focus in patient care for the duration of hospitalization. This nurse helps facilitate an organized flow throughout the entire surgical team. This nurse also has the potential for advancing through the surgical team and learning the intricacies of being an anesthetic technician.
Primary Responsibilities
- Providing nursing care to all hospitalized patients under the care of the surgeon.

- New Admins
- Post-Ops
- Facilitate all treatments as to alleviate the burden to ICU while also expanding the responsibilities of this nurse
- Recovering all surgical patients
- Extubation
- Monitoring vitals to determine additional treatments required (ex: heat support, fluid therapy)
- Provide nursing updates to clients
- New surgical admits
- Obtain and enter vitals (into cornerstone/instinct)
- Diagnostics (bloodwork, imaging)
- Place intravenous catheters
- Discharging Surgical patients
- Client education
- Medication understanding
- Point person for client questions after discharge
Secondary Responsibilities
- Help with consultation diagnostics and exams
- Assist with induction, intubation and patient transfer into the OR
Potential for Growth!
- Spend time in the OR able to ask questions of both surgeon and anesthetic technician
- Help with anesthetic protocol
- Learn the intricacies of monitoring anesthesia in and out of the OR
- Become comfortable with getting a patient on and off the ventilator
- Scrubbing into surgical procedures
Schedule:
- Shifts would either be Mon-Wed 7:30am- 6pm or Thurs-Sat 7am-6pm
