Position Overview:
A working supervisor who performs the duties of medical technical staff (e.g., technicians and assistants) as well as scheduling and supervising the staff of the assigned department. The Technician Supervisor is charged with the responsibility of on-site managing of the day-to-day operations of Taylor Veterinary ER Hospital to develop an efficient and effective hospital support team by fostering an environment of trust, teamwork, and accountability. While working hand in hand with the hospital manager, the Technician Supervisor will have the knowledge of all responsibilities of the veterinary hospital and have the ability to further the management by having direct authority and decision-making responsibilities over the leadership of the hospital. The Technician Supervisor is responsible for patient care standards and must lead the team by example — demonstrating organizational skills, adhering to company policies, and maintaining a professional attitude.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise technicians and other medical personnel in assigned department, evaluating performance (introductory and annual), reviewing time reporting, enforcing company policies and communicating new practices and policies regarding technical duties; participate in selection and discipline of staff.
  • Monitoring and regulating overtime hours worked by staff, ensuring proper coverage in times of shortage.
  • Orients and trains new clinic staff to hospital procedures and responsibilities.
  • Reviews work performance of direct reports, constructively delivers feedback, resolves personnel issues, and holds weekly discussions with the Hospital Manager.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to promote engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and implement structured performance coaching, including progressive discipline when needed.
  • Use tools such as scheduling, evaluation, and motivation to support a culture of high-quality care and service.
  • Liaison with other departments and supervisors regarding patient care and hospital operations; resolve issues, as needed.
  • Exhibit confidentiality and professionalism in all regards for employee issues; be proactive in approach to issue resolution.
  • Keep hospital management informed of any issues or risks that might impact operations or employee relations; work with management team to resolve.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Documents and reports accidents; files appropriate reports.
  • Writes policies/procedures relating to all technical aspects of the hospital and presents for approval.
  • May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager.

Compliance; ability to understand and manage important compliance regulations and requirements of the hospital.
Planning and prioritizing; must be able to organize work efficiently, set priorities, and establish plans and timetables for achieving goals.

Qualifications:

  • Combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience in a similar role for at least 2 years
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) preferred or equivalent experience.
  • High level of competence in the complete range of veterinary technician skills

  • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
  • Depending on the functional area of assignment, tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods standing and/or walking
  • May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
  • Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Pay Range
$27.90$34.10 USD
