Description
Veterinary Assistant
The ideal candidate is confident working in a fast-paced clinical environment, has strong animal handling skills, and demonstrates a commitment to patient safety, teamwork, and excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, examinations, and treatments.
- Safely handle and restrain animals during exams, procedures, and diagnostics.
- Assist with diagnostic procedures including blood draws and radiographs.
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Ensure accurate patient records are maintained within the hospital’s electronic medical record system.
- Support a positive client experience through professionalism and clear communication.
- Follow all hospital safety protocols and patient handling guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience working as a Veterinary Assistant in a veterinary clinic or hospital setting.
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills, including the ability to safely manage fearful or reactive patients.
- Experience performing blood draws and assisting with routine diagnostic procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPR certification (current or ability to obtain).
- Experience with Cornerstone EMR or other veterinary practice management systems.
- Knowledge of proper muzzle application and safe restraint techniques when necessary.
- Ability to perform diagnostic X-rays following completion of hospital-provided training and adherence to safety protocols.
Schedule
- Tuesday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Rotating Saturdays: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
