Position Overview

The Hospital Area Manager provides strategic and operational leadership across five hospital locations while being primarily stationed at one designated home hospital. This role works closely with Hospital Managers, Veterinarians, and the Regional Manager to develop high-performing teams, drive revenue growth, manage costs, and ensure operational excellence. The Area Manager fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high-quality patient care while ensuring consistency, compliance, and alignment with organizational goals across all assigned hospitals. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of five hospital locations; ensures consistent execution of policies, procedures, and standards 
  • Coaches, develops, and supports Hospital Managers to achieve operational, financial, and people-related goals 
  • Drives revenue growth and expense control across all locations, including labor, inventory, and controllable costs 
  • Reviews revenue, labor, payroll, EBITDA, and operational performance against budget; develops corrective action plans as needed 
  • Partners with Hospital Managers and Veterinarians to support efficient, profitable operations while maintaining exceptional patient care and customer service 
  • Leads onboarding, integration, and performance stabilization of newly acquired or newly opened hospitals 
  • Works closely with the Regional Manager and PetVet Care Centers support teams to ensure compliance with all administrative, financial, and regulatory requirements 
  • Oversees workforce management practices across hospitals, including labor optimization, overtime management, and staffing strategies 
  • Supports recruiting, hiring, training, retention, and succession planning for hospital leadership and key roles 
  • Conducts regular performance reviews, provides constructive feedback, and addresses performance or personnel concerns in partnership with HR and Regional leadership 
  • Monitors employee engagement, turnover, and internal promotion readiness; implements initiatives to strengthen retention and culture 
  • Ensures proper inventory management systems are in place and consistently followed across all locations 
  • Oversees facility condition and physical upkeep; identifies capital improvement opportunities and partners with leadership on CapEx planning and ROI 
  • Strengthens communication and collaboration between Hospital Managers, Veterinarians, and support teams 
  • Supports medical professional (DVM) engagement, retention, and scheduling strategies 
  • Assists in the resolution of escalated client or patient concerns when appropriate 
  • Reviews hospital KPIs and operational results on a regular cadence with leadership; accountable for achieving assigned goals 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Regional Manager 

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare management, or a related field strongly preferred 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of multi-site or senior hospital/practice management experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership role 
  • Experience in veterinary, healthcare, or service-based multi-unit environments strongly preferred 
  • CVPM, MHA, or similar certification preferred 
  • Equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be considered 

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to model and reinforce service excellence 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel) and organization-specific systems 
  • Ability to establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships across multiple teams and locations 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills 
  • Ability to travel regularly between hospital locations 
  • Flexible scheduling required; may include occasional weekends or holidays 
  • Ability to work in a hospital environment with sick animals, hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, anesthetic gases, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors 
  • Physical requirements may include standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying animals up to 50 pounds 
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Pay Range
$80,000$100,000 USD
