Veterinary Receptionist

We are looking for a Full Time Veterinary Receptionist with at least 2 years of Veterinary experience and/or 3 years of Client Service Experience to join our Veterinary Reception team at Plainfield Animal Hospital!

As a full-service animal hospital, we have obtained an excellent reputation in the South Plainfield and surrounding communities for treating pets as if they were our own with compassionate care and quality veterinary services. From early vaccinations to senior care, our dedicated team helps pets feel his/her best through every stage of life. We take the time to get to know our clients and their pet(s) on a personal level. We pride ourselves on creating a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for not only our clients, but also our staff. We are open 7 days a week to service our clients and community.

Position Overview:

The Receptionist supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. You will perform a variety of clerical and client service work in providing support to the hospital, doctors, and to clients during what can be high stress situations.

Tasks include:

  • Coordinating the flow of pets and owners in the lobby; placates owners distressed by long waits, scheduling glitches, and other problems.
  • Identifying potential emergencies in person, and over the phone, and scheduling those appointments appropriately.
  • Organizing and processing all payment and invoices.
  • Performing cashiering duties.
  • Responding to inquiries about the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats; refer to appropriate department/staff member as needed.
  • Inputting data and communication notes into the practice management software.
  • Coordinating and scheduling appointments; providing clients with appointment reminders and any special instructions
  • Taking deposits for various procedures and appointments.
  • Responding to client emails and text messages; typing and editing a variety of correspondence, and processing faxes.
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary medicine terminology.
  • Becoming familiar with our retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives and being able to confidently discuss with clients.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, and/or experience.
  • Knowledge of clerical procedures and computers. Avimark knowledge is a plus but not required.
  • Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work every other weekend.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
  • Some moderately physically demanding work, involving lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Competitive hourly salary based on experience and knowledge.
  • 2 year of Veterinary experience highly preferred, but not required.
  • 3 years of Customer Service experience required.
  • Cornerstone knowledge is a plus but not required.
