Veterinary Assistant - Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation
Interested in Veterinary Medicine and ready to take the first step into the field?
Veterinary Referral Associates is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at our specialty referral practice in Gaithersburg, MD. This is a full-time position with regular hours from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, plus monthly hospital-wide on-call responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Walk and monitor patients
- Assist with patient restraint under the guidance of our Rehabilitation Practitioners
- Help with patient exercises and treatments
- Observe and report patients’ responses to treatment
- Communicate with clients and provide updates
- Read and interpret medical records
- Enter treatment details into our computerized system
- Maintain department cleanliness, restock supplies, and perform equipment maintenance
- Assist with laundry tasks

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent.
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a veterinary technician / assistant in a clinical setting.
- Experience or strong interest in veterinary sports medicine, rehabilitation, or physical therapy is highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and colleagues.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with common rehabilitation modalities and equipment is a plus.
- Excellent technical skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, medication administration, and patient monitoring.
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and safe handling techniques.
